Loan Periods

Loan periods are as follows:

  • 3 weeks for books
  • 7 days for new books
  • 3 weeks for audio books ( cassettes and CDs)
  • 3 days for videos & DVDs
  • 3 weeks for non-current periodicals
  • Current periodicals do not circulate
  • Generally, reference books do not circulate. Upon request, some may be checked out overnight
  • Interlibrary loan materials are due on date indicated by lending library
  • Materials may be renewed once either by phone or in person, if no waiting list exists

The Director may establish a loan period for special collections or materials, which are temporarily in great demand for school projects.

The Library does not limit the number of items a patron may borrow, with these exceptions: 3 videos; 3 books in a series; and 2 books on a known school assignment. Further, students unaccompanied by a parent or guardian are limited to checking out a number of items equal to their grade in school (i.e. a 2nd grader may check out 2 books).

Reserves may be placed in person or over the phone. Patrons will be notified when the materials are available. There is no charge for placing a reserve.

Confidentiality

All records, formal and informal, in the Spooner Memorial Library relating to patron registration and the subsequent circulation by patrons of materials provided by the Library are considered to be confidential in nature. Wit the exception of minors whose custodial parents and legal guardians are able to view their records according to Wisconsin law.

In order to prevent an unreasonable invasion of privacy, records shall not be made available to anyone except under the written order of the Director, such order having been issued pursuant to a proper legal process, order, or subpoena under the law.

Upon receipt of any process, order, or subpoena, the person named and/or served shall report to and consult with the Director and legal counsel of the City to determine if such legal request is in full compliance with proper legal authority. If the legal process fails to sufficiently identify or name in specific terms the records on file in respect to an identified patron, the request is considered to be defective and not binding upon the Library, except under further due process of law.

Any problems relating to the privacy of a patron through the Library records which are not specified in this policy statement shall be referred to the Library Director and the Board, which shall issue a written decision as to whether to heed the request for information.
